Our starter flock of four ewes arrived in June (2018) from the Dewsnaps flock (thanks Sally!) They joined our three Jacobs ewes and two horses on our smallholding between Matlock and Alfreton in the north east of Derbyshire.

Our aim with the Icelandic sheep is to establish a small milking flock that will provide us with the opportunity to make cheese and yogurt and also provide fleece for handspinners and some meat. This will complement our established activities – growing fruit and vegetables, wood for fuel and keeping hens.

We chose to call our flock the Wystan flock after St.Wystan from whom the nearby village of Wessington was named. We were also were married in St.Wystan’s church in Repton, Derbyshire.
