The Normannsson flock of Icelandic sheep live on our smallholding on the edge of the Southern Uplands outside of Dalmellington, East Ayrshire.

I´ve always liked Icelandic sheep since I first saw them, but after a chance to work with them in Iceland, I fell in love with the breed for its lambing ease, behaviour, and wool qualities. I also enjoyed many aspects of farming in Iceland, particularly the performance recording and strict biosecurity measures, which I have carried over into my own flock.

We record lambing ease, lamb vigour, lamb suckling ability, and daily live weight gain. All sheep are heptavacced, mineral-drenched (soon-to-be boluses), and regularly FEC tested.

Most of our sheep are from lines known for their wool crafts (Dewsnaps, Honourwood and Pen-y-Lan), and our customers enjoy the fleeces the sheep have produced.

A few of our flock have attended prominent local shows such as Stranraer, Carsphairn, Stewartry, and Peebles, picking up some decent results. Our lambs in 2023 and 2024 were sired by Pen-y-Lan Tudwal, who was the second-placed ram in the ISBOBI Online show in 2023. His son Baldr won the first ram and overall ISBOBI Online Show Champion. Our other show results can be found on the ISBOBI website.

We´ll occasionally have some ewes, rams, and ewe lambs available for sale in September and October, as well as felted fleeces ready for rug making in June or July.

Visitors are welcome by appointment only and must adhere to footbathing requirements.
